The project will improve the reliability of energy supply in Nepal and strengthen the transmission infrastructure needed to promote Nepal s capacity for cross-border energy trade. It will provide support in three critical areas in the electricity supply industry, which has experienced severe underinvestment: (i) electricity transmission capacity expansion, (ii) strengthening of distribution systems including those along the Tamakoshi (Khimti) Kathmandu transmission line, and (iii) rehabilitation of selected small hydropower plants.

Nepal.Preparing the Kathmandu Valley Urban Environment Improvement Project

The Country Partnership Strategy (2010-2012) aims to assist government in water supply and sanitation sector development and in improving access to water supply and sanitation services to both rural and urban Nepal. It is expected that the project will have significant impact in improving health and hygiene of the poor and reducing water-borne diseases. The government has established, "Low Income Consumer Support Unit" (LICSU) to support the urban poor in Kathmandu Valley to have better access to water and sanitation.
