The objective of the Transport Project for Ghana is to strengthen the provision of transport infrastructure and services and improve the business environment to sustain broad-based growth and raise living standards through increased access to and affordability of basic social services and income generating activities.
Negative measures include: dust pollution from earth moving machines; noise and vibrations caused by construction machinery and vehicles; accidents due to increased traffic; increased rate of erosion; obstruction of access routes during road construction; generation and disposal of excavated waste from constructional sites; deterioration of surface water quality; increased rate of erosion; pollution of ground water resources; and air pollution. Mitigation measures include: i) regular watering of exposed surfaces; ii) maintenance of vehicles to minimize emissions; iii) adhere to maintenance schedules of vehicles; iv) provide, erect and maintain on the site and at such positions on the approaches, refectories traffic signs and traffic control signals; v) rehabilitate and plant slopes with local grass species as soon as possible; vi) measures will be taken to ensure that constructional vehicles do not cause safety hazard, noise, dust or disturbance to local inhabitants; vii) locate discharge points for drains from inhabited areas appropriately to avoid polluting potable water sources; viii) rehabilitate and plant slopes up with grass as soon as possible after disfigurement; and ix) provision of oil and grease traps in drainage systems.
