KATREN.The EBRD is acquiring a minority equity stake of ca. 15% in OJSC Katren (the “Company”), one of the largest distributors of pharmaceutical products in CIS. The investment will be used to (i) finance the Company’s supply chain optimization programme in Russia (ii) strengthen the equity base by supporting balance sheet restructuring of the Company’s subsidiary in Kazakhstan. (iii) fund acquisitions in the pharmaceutical distribution sector in other CIS and CEE markets as well as in the pharmacy retail sector in Russia.
PROJECT CRICKET. Project number: 42831.The EBRD is continuing to support the safe exploration of natural resources in Kazakhstan with a planned investment into the development of the Sekisovskoye gold and silver deposit in the province (oblast) of East Kazakhstan. The Bank is considering a joint loan and equity investment of up to US$ 21 million to contribute to the expansion of the underground mine and processing operations at Sekisovskoye. As outlined in the current EBRD Strategy for Kazakhstan, the Bank supports the development of responsible mining and pursues projects that increase private sector participation and are committed to improving environmental standards and energy efficiency. The investment in Sekisovskoye which the EBRD is considering will contribute to further improvements of the application of best environmental, health and safety (EH&S) standards at the deposit.
SHARDARA HPP MODERNIZATION PROJECT.The EBRD is considering financing of Shardara HPP rehabilitation project to replace old equipment and improve efficiency of this hydropower plant. Supporting sustainable energy and redressing energy imbalances shortages through investment is one of the EBRD's priorities in Kazakhstan, as defined by its Sustainable Energy Action Plan in the country.
Central Asia Regional Economic Cooperation Corridor 1 (Taraz Bypass). Proyect Number.45150- 01. The project comprises reconstructing an approximate 7.7km road section and constructing an approximate 57.3 km bypass. The 65 km Taraz bypass section is integral to the transport corridor, connecting the oil-rich western part of the country to its southeast and beyond. The project will boost regional connectivity and strengthen the viability of the investment program roads
